Urban space 2013
I photographed central locations in Zurich which were characterized by the tumultuous movement of man in the public space. Visiting these places at different times of day as a bystander, the idea occurred to me that human consciousness in these public spaces is eroded by daily life, time, and the repetition in which we find ourselves, which make our environment and the beauty of small details invisible.
I then chose to recreate those spaces with the most dominant space and the most salient architectural textures using a wide spectrum of mediums including oil paint on fabric, screen printing, photography, woodblock printing and a 10 meter long roll of paper printed and presented as an installation. The primary desire in undertaking this project was to utilize reductionist principles and to recreate the space with an emphasis on the small details to which I assigned significance; to make salient what had already existed and make it visible.
